1. Introduction

The University of Akureyri has a contract with a 3rd party service provider, called Origo, regarding the printing service called Rent a Prent. Rent a Prent is a cloud printing service which allows us to send print jobs to a printing cloud where each printer can retrieve your print job.

All multipurpose machines provide printing, copying and scanning.

N.B. duplex printing is the default settings on all black and white print jobs.

Here is a simple illustration that shows the print process.

2. How much?

Students need printing quota in order to print/copy/scan. This quota can be bougth at the Information desk in Miðborg or at the Library.

Below is the price list:

Price list

 Black/WhiteColor
A4 one side (simplex)  10 20
A4 both sides (duplex)  15 30
A3 one side (simplex)  20 40
A3 both sides (duplex)  30 60
Scan  2 2

3. Smart card / Student ID

The best way to login to the printers is to use the smart card/student ID, more on that in the guide about Smart card - Student ID

All printers are equipped with a sensor for the smart cards. You are logged into the printer when you place your smart card on the sensor. When you have finished using the printer it is best to press the ID button on the printer to log out.

N.B. if you forget to log out of the printer the printer will log you out automatically after 60 seconds. Anyone can use your account to copy at your expense during those 60 seconds if you do not log out manually

3.1. Don't have a smart card?

If you don't have a smart card, forgot it or just haven't applied for one, you can still use the printing service.

If you haven't applied for a smart card you can print like this:

  1. Just print on the print on print (sometimes \\print\print) using your computer or the computer lab in the library and the system will send you a 5 letter TIC code.
  2. Check your university e-mail and find the TIC code (TIC = Temporary identification code)
  3. Use the TIC code on the printer to log in.

If you forgot your smart card, or lost it, you can print like this:

  1. Go to the next service desk and ask for you smart card to be removed from the printing service.
  2. Just print on the print on print (sometimes \\print\print) using your computer or the computer lab in the library and the system will send you a 5 letter TIC code.
  3. Check your university e-mail and find the TIC code (TIC = Temporary identification code)
  4. Use the TIC code on the printer to log in.

When you bring your smart card next, or find it, you can activate it by:

  1. Go to the next printer
  2. Place your card on the sensor
  3. Type in the TIC code (the system will replace the TIC with the card)

4. How to print?

This is how you do it.
